As we celebrate our 25th anniversary over the next month, we’re paying tribute to the women and men who helped build the success story that is F-Secure. You can experience that story here and help us fight malware in our anniversary arcade game.
Today we speak to Ilkka Ranta , our Country Manager for Finland, who joined F-Secure in 1997.
Where were you 25 years ago?
In May 1988 I was travelling with my high school class in Germany. We spent one week in West Berlin, which back then was an energetic and vibrant city surrounded by a wall in the middle of communist German Democratic Republic. No one of us could imagine that 18 months after our visit the Berlin wall would be torn down and the cities of East and West Berlin would be united.
What’s surprised you most since you’ve joined F-Secure?
It’s amazing how fast the world can change today – and with this I mean e.g. that a social media site can become one of world’s largest “populations” or a smart phone operating system can grow from zero to market dominance in a few years.
What’s your favorite piece of technology?
I’m a bit slow in adopting new technologies. I’m not even in Facebook yet. But two months ago I bought my first iPad and I love the thing ! It’s so practical !
What F-Secure memory is most irreplaceable to you?
I have many good memories from this company. Events and trips we have done with customers and partners, working in a truly international environment and the opportunity to get to know people from all over the world.
How will the world be different in 25 years?
Our world will be more democratic and transparent as everyone has access to the Internet. On the other hand and especially after the recent NSA leak it is questionable how we can safeguard our privacy in the networked world.
What’s your 25th birthday wish for F-Secure?
Happy Birthday and set you mark in the history ! I hope the company can create something that is meaningful for all Internet users.
