As we celebrate our 25th anniversary over the next month, we’re paying tribute to the women and men who helped build the success story that is F-Secure. You can experience that story here and help us fight malware in our anniversary arcade game.
Today we speak to software engineer Orestis Kostakis who joined F-Secure in 2010 and recently won the annual Finnish Society for Computer Science M.Sc. thesis award.
Where were you 25 years ago?
On some beach in the Mediterranean trying to articulate my first logical sentence.
What’s surprised you most since you’ve joined F-Secure?
Every time I get to know more about a colleague, I discover that he or she has performed some ground breaking work in the past.
What’s your favorite piece of technology?
I don’t care much about things; Ideas are what fascinates me. So I would have to answer: the next great algorithm that will shake things up.
What F-Secure memory is most irreplaceable to you?
The team-building events. And the 2nd in a row win of Best Protection AV-TEST award.
How will the world be different in 25 years?
We will have discovered ultra cheap & clean sources of energy and as a result we will have eradicated poverty, pollution, infant mortality, as well as gender and racial inequalities. Illiteracy will be a thing of the past and we will be able to answer the question of whether P equals NP. Does it sound utopic? Well, we can’t expect to solve the problems if first we can’t imagine that it is possible.
What’s your 25th birthday wish for F-Secure?
Keep on providing excellent services that people would be eager to use, in a manner that makes Fellows proud to work.
